Short Lead

The word ‘freedom’ means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But for me, freedom represents an open horizon. That state of mind where the sky’s the limit. This freedom is the only thing that brings out the real me. Mainly because freedom has also been my space for learning. You become responsible for your actions living like this and quickly find your limits, weaknesses, and strengths. It’s probably why I was addicted to freedom as a kid. Always looking for something to challenge me and make me feel alive: rollerblading, climbing trees, riding my scooter, and swimming a bit too far from shore. 

Ties That Bind

Ever since I was little, I always resisted the idea of “normalcy”. I ate sticks of butter, hated wearing shoes, and my closest friends were the animals I could find in my backyard. Fast forward 20 years, and I still feel like that same child. I’ve worked really hard mentally and physically to honor my authentic self, no matter how painful that may be. It doesn’t just help me love and celebrate who I am, but I hope it inspires others to see that it’s never too late to become the person you’ve always wanted to be.

For Mind, Body and Spirit

The adventure with drawing started when I was 10 years old. Sometimes when school lessons weren’t too exciting I was finding myself doodling at the back pages of my notebooks. At first, I was redrawing characters from my favourite comics and cartoons: typically they were taken from the Japanese manga Dragon Ball or Cartoon Network series like Dexter’s Laboratory or Samurai Jack. Soon after that I noticed that I can experiment with it a bit more and mix my favourite characters with personal ideas: with that I started developing my own style.

Creating illustrations made me realize that drawing is the best way to truly express myself. You can say that it became a natural reaction to boredom, stress and a catalyst for creating new and exciting stories.

If I were to choose a spirit animal for myself, it would be a unicorn. I feel multi-talented, you know? My disciplines are 

diverse. You see, I have experience with visual arts and communication. But I also understand and can implement UI/UX design. Creatively, I know my way around a camera, but I also have a business mindset. I helped found Snowball, our sister design and growth marketing company, and I am a partner of New Normal Group. Every opportunity is just that, an opportunity. And I love the freedom to say "yes!" if it means learning, growing, and helping people make the best end-product. 

Windows of Opportunity

The world of fantasy has always attracted me. Looking back on my past, I guess the fascination was curated during childhood. At that time, my family was always moving somewhere new. We started in Greece, then paced around Bosnia for some years until I finished high school. I even tried out Serbia during my undergrad. And there was one thing I could count on through it all: my video games and the connection they gave me to an endless number of fantasy worlds.

Although born and raised in France, I feel much more like a citizen of the world. I received my education in France and England. I have worked for French, German, Norwegian, British, and American companies, I have a half-English wife, with a father-in-law living in Norway, and my own family originating in Italy! Multiculturalism has been a part of my life since day one, whether it be the co-existence of diverse racial, religious and cultural groups or how it manifests into behaviors, assumptions, values, patterns of thinking, and communication styles. I cannot imagine where, or who, I would be today without such an international perspective. 

The Vibrancy of Multiculturalism

I’m no fancy gal - I live a pretty ordinary Norwegian life. While many people like to climb metaphorical mountains to see what’s at the top, I find a lot of value in the things right here at sea level. My life is calm and collected, which is why it’s so easy for me to pursue what genuinely brings me happiness, regardless of peer pressure or societal expectations. All I need is a kitchen, my fiancé, and a solid board game - this is my recipe for a perfectly imperfect life.

A Helping Hand

 been obsessed with art. Did I ever know exactly what I wanted to do 

art? Absolutely not. But I knew that whatever I did had to include some aspect of the art world. It all started when I was just a little kid, writing short stories and drawing pictures to go along with them. They were basically comic strips, about a funny old man going about his funny little life. It seems as though I have always been drawn to this genre of art, those “slices of life” that reveal a shared truth. Perhaps it is because I believe that when people come together and connect to a common feeling, we are closing the gap between stranger and friend.

The Path of Most Resistance

I originally started on the road to development back in 2005. I moved to the big city of Lisbon in my home country of Portugal, south of my home town of Fundão. The subject - computer science - was great. But I didn’t expect the transition from a small town to big city life to take such a heavy toll on my well-being. For some reason, it didn’t feel right. Perhaps, subconsciously, my body knew I had other things to accomplish first. So after just two years, I moved back home to help support my family and look for a different opportunity.

I had a pretty normal Norwegian upbringing, with my early years spent in a rural tree-laden farming community. Most of my adult life has been lived in Oslo, which came after completing my Computer Science studies in Halden. Immediately after I graduated, I started working in the industry and did so for 5 consecutive years. However, I quickly learned that I didn’t have much interest in large conglomerates or multinational corporations. It felt too bureaucratic and slow-moving for my taste. So I gradually made my way over to freelance. That way, I could control who I worked with, what I worked with, and how I could best utilize my free time. 

Look, Listen, Learn

I always knew I wanted to help people. Even from a young age, I saw myself in some sort of teacher-type role. I figured if I could make someone else’s life just a little bit better by helping them develop and grow, that I would be doing my part in building a better world. Fast forward to today, and although I didn’t end up a teacher, putting people first is still the most important part of my life. This is true whether they are clients, coworkers, or community members.

Power to the People

I don’t think enough people dare to be different. So when I was growing up in Serbia, instead of wanting to fit in, I did all I could to dance to the beat of my own drum. While the other kids were out playing soccer or partying, I was off trying motocross, rollerblading, and even breakdancing. It was never to be the best or to show off; I guess I just wanted to experience life in a different, more unique way. Without a doubt, this mindset has followed me into adulthood.

My grandma Emma saved my life. She was my rock, keeping me strong in times of struggle. It's why we called her 

). Gommo was the one who pushed me to never stop believing in the light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how bad things felt. She helped teach me that as long as we do our best to cultivate friendship, offer encouragement to others, and build networks of support, nothing can stop us from becoming the person we are truly meant to be.

The Virtue of Resilience

As an introvert, it’s the time that I get to spend alone that best recharges and refuels me. So perhaps one of the greatest gifts the developer community gave me was getting me to open up and come out of my shell. They made me feel safe, heard, and respected, so much so that I never once felt afraid to speak my mind or share my ideas. Ultimately, this led me to meet some pretty amazing human beings, many of which, in their own special way, helped get me to where I am today. It’s why I feel so strongly about the importance of connection. Conversations spark interest and inspiration and make our lives all the more exciting. 

Threads of Connection

I have a special kind of love and respect for my home country of Nigeria. The people are incredibly hardworking, intelligent, and unstoppable, creating a strength that I have felt from a young age. It came in many directions: from my parents, friends, neighbors, and pastor, making a colorful sense of community. Here we are celebrated for both who we are together and who we are as individuals. I think this has given me the perspective of there being inherent value to every human life.

Building a Better Tomorrow

Even though I consider myself an introvert, I enjoy nothing more than interacting with people. I think we have forgotten the immense power we as individuals have when it comes to impacting others. Offering unconditional kindness often feels like a dusty book left for too long on some forgotten corner shelf. Well, I am dusting off the cover to say that there will always be a place for kindness, even if it comes one smile at a time.

People have changed my life. More specifically, the opportunities given to me by people have changed my life. Some inspired me, some challenged me, and some helped me grow. I think this grounded me in the importance of joining projects with a strong sense of community. It was a huge reason I ended up with Okay and New Normal Group. I didn't want to be just another employee. I wanted to be a valued piece of the puzzle.

The internet is my foundation. Every time I open my computer, or talk to someone about the latest online developments, the room feels electric. How could something that is always evolving ever get boring? It keeps me on my toes and is always pushing me to grow. My job is to design, create and dream for the world of tomorrow. I could not imagine myself being anywhere else.

All my life, artistic women have surrounded me. Specifically, I’m talking about my mother and grandmother, who were always expressing their life experiences through the stroke of a brush. This imprinted into my subconscious because creating art is also a core part of who I am today. It’s what defined my adolescence. It’s what I pursued in my studies. And it’s what I draw inspiration from to enhance my design work. George Iness said that the true use of art is to cultivate the artist’s own spiritual nature. I definitely think that’s what happened to me.

If you would have asked me 10 years ago about accounting being in my future, I would have thought you were crazy. It’s not because of the profession, but because I saw myself as a creative free spirit for so long. As a person who desired to experience life in their own way, on their own terms. Of course, that all changed once I found Origami Paperworks. While I may already have had my wings, they were the ones who gave me the chance to fly.

Somehow, deep down, I always knew I would end up working with programming. While the road that led me here included many twists and turns, I look back now and appreciate my choice to take the path less traveled. It shaped the passionate person I am today, helping me excel with both my hobbies and with my work. I guess it was like my own personal evolution, as mother nature intends to have it.

I have always been passionate about computers. I was learning and actively coding when I was only in the 7th grade! At first, I focused on smaller personal projects. But those small projects sparked my later passions as a professional, as I quickly learned more about the field and developed my skills.

I have always enjoyed both the calm activities nature has to offer and busy city life. And I really had to, seeing that I have spent nearly 15 years in the world of finance, living in the city.  I did love it, but when I was given the opportunity to move back home, I took it as a leap of faith and I have not regretted it since.
